Ceramic vs. Tourmaline

Ceramic vs. Tourmaline

In the market for a new hot tool? We are here to give you the low down on the two most popular types. Not all flat irons and curling wands are created equal so it is important to know the differences between Ceramic and Tourmaline before you take the plunge by purchasing.

Years ago Ceramic coated tools were  all the rage because of the quick and even heating of the plates which prevented any hot spots that would scorch your hair. Our  tools are not simply coated with ceramic but we use 100 percent pure plates which makes our tools extremely durable and the best quality you can buy. Ceramic plates make your hair shiny and less frizzy but a heat protectant is essential since moisture is lost in the process. Ceramic Irons are a fabulous option that are still very popular today but if you are styling more frequently I would recommend trying something different.

Tourmaline is a unique crystal that is crushed up and used in styling tools. When Tourmaline infused plates are heated they exhibits pyroelectricity which means that one end of is negatively charged while the other side is positively charged. When using tourmaline tools the crystal releases six times more negative ions. Let me break it down for you....

These little ions smoooooth the hair by sealing the cuticle. If you have thick, frizzy hair or if you blow dry, flat iron or curl your hair regularly Tourmaline is the way to go. Hair appears shinier, healthier and sexier...who doesn't want that?  The reason why is because Tourmaline has a softer texture than Ceramic which means less friction as the hair is pulled through the tool. As a result, hair is better conditioned and suffers less damage from heat styling.

Spend less on products that seal in the shine and invest in a quality  tool. Tourmaline is used in a variety of tools, including flat irons. hair straighteners, curlers, and hair dryers but Ceramic offers a great alternative for those who don't use heat very often or  those who have fine or thin hair that is quickly styled. This Fall we will launch a line of Titanium Tools so stay tuned and get ready for the next best thing in hot tool technology. No matter what tool you decide on let us know and share pictures with us on Facebook and Twitter. Stay cool in the Summer Heat NuMees! xoxo
